TRASHCAPES / DON’T LOOK UP

Trashcapes is a visual and philosophical
exploration of the concept of utopia—
an imagined, ideal society that is inherently
unreachable. The project juxtaposes this
idealism with a harsh, tangible reality:
the accumulation of human-made waste
on the coasts of Africa. Through the
medium of cyanotype photography,
it seeks to capture the tension between
the hope of a perfect world and the
relentless impact of human activity
on the environment.
Don't Look Up is a fascinating project using
cyanotype prints to reimagine iconic
scenes from Hollywood films where
characters look skyward in anticipation,
awe, or fear. Tapping into the emotional
and symbolic weight of these moments,
it creates a thematic thread that explores
humanity's relationship with existential
threats from above, particularly in the form
of an impending asteroid—a visual metaphor
for broader fears, whether natural disasters,
unknown cosmic forces, or even human-induced
environmental collapse.
